Bony Elbows, Plush Carpet and Lots of Laughter

Parenting Help Parenting Help Tips What is the one thing every Parent can do to build a great relationship with their children? It starts with a floor preferably covered in super plush carpet, add a few bony elbows and pointy knees followed by lots of giggles and laughter and is rounded out by hugs. Get this one thing right and everything else will fall right into place.

That’s right! Get used to sitting on the floor and playing with your kids. There is something about coming down to their territory that kids just love. When Mommy and Daddy sit on the floor, kids can’t help but get excited and the fun begins. Toddlers love being able to come eye to eye with their giant Dad’s and will bring you all kinds of treasures to play with, 6 – 8 year olds will sit as close as they can and play pretend. The 8-10 year olds will love playing Video games and showing off their skills. Tweens will grab a blanket and cuddle up next to you to watch a favorite show from the floor. Tickle battles are always fun. Teens might not go for the floor but they still love the attention and the silliness.

Children seem to instinctively know, when a Parent sits on the floor, the fun begins.

Kids will forgive their Parents of a lot of shortcomings, but lack of attention is not one of them. They need the hugs and laughter and the silly moments more then the proper manners, discipline and character building. Start building a strong, fun and loving relationship with them early and you will have their respect when they hit the difficult teen years.

Set aside time to play and you’ll discover a new purpose in your life along with the ultimate stress reliever. It’s easy to say you’re too tired but the truth is, like exercise, playing with your kids will actually rejuvenate and motivate.
