Give Someone A Happy Thanksgiving By Donating To A Food Drive

You will usually have several food drives in your area during the year but especially at Thanksgiving. A church group or a civic group may have a food drive. At the local school or community college, the honor society, the science club, or the student government association may sponsor a food drive.

In my area the largest food drive is sponsored by the Ecumenical Ministries. I saw an article about their food drive in at least four newspapers or free papers or newsletters. Their goal is to collect 2000 items including boxed cereal, boxed dinners, canned applesauce, a variety of canned fruit, a variety of canned meats and fish, canned soup, evaporated milk, oatmeal, peanut butter, rice, crackers, and noodles.

Monetary donations are also accepted. The organization hosting the local food drive can use this money to purchase food at a discount and also purchase certain foods that were not donated.

The Ecumenical Ministries distribute food to the less fortunate in South Baldwin County. This has been a difficult year due to the economy and increasing unemployment.

We always think about the great food we have at Thanksgiving. How about thinking about the people who are less fortunate and donating to a food drive so that these people will have a better Thanksgiving. Don’t just donate the food items that you have that you don’t really want. Think about what foods you would like to receive if you were someone receiving food from a food drive.

Find a local food drive in your area and donate now. Your donations are needed and will be greatly appreciated. Donate non-perishable food items. Your donations will help someone have a happy thanksgiving and you will get a blessing.
