New Years Clubs — the Good, the Bad and the Ugly
New years clubs and the parties which happen at them are a long-standing tradition to ring in the next year of life and celebrate the year which has just passed.
It’s also a chance for you to get away from the kids for a night and enjoy some adult time. Though I’ve never been married after talking to many married couples the importance of having some alone time with just the two of you and being able to hang out with some other adults doing grown-up activities cannot be overstated.
I know the club scene may not be your thing but it does have some virtues and also some pit falls.
There are as many different types of clubs as there are people.
Maybe the baddest part of the new years clubs action is the club’s book up months sometimes years in advance and it’s very difficult to get those reservations.
To give you a couple of examples from my location here in Austin, Texas there is a club called Vicci which is usually booked over a year in advance for the New Year’s celebration.
And they sell tickets. Last I checked a couple years ago was over $50 per person. This is an upscale trendy kind of club which tailors to a yuppie style.
There’s also a club called Gatsby’s which takes its name from the character from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic The Great Gatsby.
I’ve only been there a while back so I don’t know if it’s changed but it had some of the stylings and feel of the 1920s style speakeasy club.
I do know it’s notoriously difficult to get in and/or get reservations for the New Year’s Eve party here.
Now for the ugly side which you can probably guess is the overindulgence of the revelers. As someone who’s been vomited on before at a club I can tell you it’s no fun and neither is the smell.
But you can take some enjoyment and humor in watching nearly passed out people stumbling around and falling all over themselves. Especially in this time of celebration I recommend seeing the good and the humor in the ugly side of this tradition.
And now for the good…
It is a time of great joy and celebration for virtually all the people around the world. And the people inside these clubs are no different.
It’s a time where people are very open and happy and very easily approachable. You get a chance to meet new people which you wouldn’t have on any other night of the year where these circumstances are all aligned in your favor.
And of course, the hot ladies in attendance are certainly looking for some companionship or at the very least a guy to kiss for good luck at the stroke of midnight.
Taking all these things into account the idea of being at a club on New Year’s is something I’ve done before and had much fun doing.
I highly recommend it for you especially if you’ve never done it before. Find a club which fits with your style and attracts the kind of people you like to be around and give it a go.
Do whatever you can to get in the door because were only a short time away from the stroke of midnight December 31, 2008.
Feel free to tell me about any of your past New Year’s club experiences or what you have planned for this year in the comments.
