One in Six boys will be sexually abused…

What a sad statistic!

As parents we are often under the false assumption that sexual predators are only interested in little girls, yet studies have shown that many child molesters will seek out victims of either sex and are more interested in controlling the child then whether the child is a boy or girl.

According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, there are signs that a Parent should be aware of…. if you suspect your son has been abused or if he is showing these signs the first step is to talk to a counselor or your pediatrician.

* unusual interest in or avoidance of all things of a sexual nature
* sleep problems or nightmares
* depression or withdrawal from friends or family
* refusal to go to school
* statements that their bodies are dirty or damaged, or fear that there is something wrong with them in the genital area

Not every kid that is abused will display the symptoms above…the nature of abuse is to  train the child to be very good at hiding the  abuse and sometimes it takes a very adapt parent to spot the  changes and signs that a child may be  being  manipulated into secrecy.
